How does a flail mower work?
The high-speed, high-power rotating drum of the flail mower is powered by tractor PTO through a heavy-duty gearbox and belt system. As this drum spins, the attached flails (or swinging blades) swing outwards. The swinging flails cut through rough terrain, woody materials such as brush, and other vegetation. If a rock or other oversized debris is encountered, the individual flails flip out of the way until clear of the obstacle.
What is a flail mower used for?
Flail mowing is used to cut and mulch grass, weeds, and small shrubs. Flail mowing is an ideal solution when landscaping larger areas of land that a standard finish lawn mower cannot handle. They are designed to handle heavy-duty maintenance tasks such as mowing meadows, pastures, orchards, prairies, and hiking trails. They are also commonly used for municipal right of way shoulder maintenance due to their robust construction, ease of maintenance and compact size. Models with hydraulic sideshift capability make easy to mow close to fence lines, ditches, and between trees in orchards and tree plantations.
Best suited to landscape and agricultural management, a flail mower will remove and clear away overgrown areas of land overrun by weeds, brambles, grass, and more.
